Ex USA embassy car, looks really clean and from what I gathered it has air-suspension, also quite very cheap. Bad idea or crappy idea? Is maintenance better or worse than the (until now faultless) Range Rover?

It would allow me to still keep 3 cars and have one new (newer DD) and the Citroen, instead of selling both the Rangie and Citroen and buying something new.

Single cam v8 I believe? Pretty reliable engine. Air suspension concerns me but how many people can say they have a black on black armored suv once used to escort the president and high priority targets.

No idea on the maintenance, but how much does it weigh?

I would imagine quite a lot, not sure if more or less than the Rangie.

Well, I already have a dark armored SUV that probably shuttled someone important around, but I can trade them at a profit and that extra money would allow me to buy a new car.

How much does it weigh? gas is going to suck, unless you have DOD budget coverage. Also your wife might not like it either..

Quite a lot, but I wouldn’t DD it, just use it to drive at night and long trips.

The mechanics in the Range Rover are famously some of the worst in the world. The mechanics in that are the same as an old Ford F-150. Which means that in theory, the drivetrain won’t break, and if you somehow manage to break it through user error, you can fix it with duct tape and a sledgehammer. That’s just my impression, though.

As for the shocks, see every saggy-assed town car and Mark-whatever ever equipped with them.

Go for it. Mod motor Navigators are bulletproof.

That’s interesting to know, maintenance on the Rangie will certainly be a concern in the future. Trading them would mean extra money in my pocket from the trade (10k probably) that I’ll use to buy the new DD (Audi A3 probably) and save me money in the future.

Ok, than how cheap is cheap? Cuase if its cheap enough the cool points can cover trouble of hauling around the extra weight. Im guessing its probably weighing in at 7-8k lbs.

I really don’t know the weight, but I would trade it for my Range Rover and get some money back to buy a new DD.

do you live in a place where you think armored might be of value?

or, do you live near a place where you could drive it to and sell it for more than you pay for it?

i.e. do you live in texas and think you could sell it in a mexican border town for a decent profit?

Buy it.

It’s an F150 underneath, you win.

Air ride is iffy but I’m sure there’s a conversion kit if it fails on you.

It’s a good thing I’m poor because this is something I would do so I could say I had an armored car.

ok, then yeah, I’d get an armored car.

I read though that something flashy like that navigtor would make one a target, and that there is a good market for armored POS’s, like a rusty corolla. sounds neat to me

These rigs (ford expidition) are pretty bomber. As long as it was maintained reasonable well it should be a pretty good truck. It will absoutly suck gas like it’s going out of style (10-15 US mpg city/15-20 mgp hwy). It would also be good to know if it was converted to run on that sugar based gasoline you south americans like to use. Air suspension can be changed out with standard ford shocks and springs I would think if it became an issue. I had a Chevy Suburban with the air suspension and 170k miles, it was still working great when I turned it in. Just think of the cool factor with a rig like this.

I really don’t want to buy an armored Corolla, there are plenty of those. Also, I’m not a target, the thing that worries me is traffic light robberies and so on.

Pretty sure it wasn’t converted to our E95 but that can’t be that bad right? I mean, the Rangie runs fine on it.

Rangie’s will run on rum and piss. Most fords are E85/flex fuel so it should work fine, but don’t take my word for it, I’m just an arm chair quarter back.

More reliable than a Range Rover, but bad interior build quality and not as good of looks.

But buying that will grant me funds to buy the A3 and keep something huge and armored.

Buying the A3 would require me to sell some of the cars, either the Range and the Citroen or the Tribeca (which I don’t want anymore) + financing the rest.

Kinja'd!!! jkm7680 > My citroen won't start

At high mileage, it will give out. However, it’s fairly cheap to replace, and if you don’t like it, just get coil springs from an Expedition.
